On May 14th, 1643, Louis XIII of France died.
He left as his heir his four year old son, who became the legendary Louis XIV. Known to history as the Sun King, he was infamous for both his love life and military exploits, as well as the building of the Palace of Versailles. 
He went on to to rule France for 72 years, 110 days, and is still the longest reigning monarch in European history.
